The Challenge

In late 2022, the client approached Redwood Kitchens to help with the final phase of heritage works on their listed property. The couple wanted to transform their U shape kitchen into a more functional and welcoming space, including replacing the window with patio doors to provide easier garden access. They aimed to optimise worktop space, storage, and dining areas while preserving the original tiled floor.

The Process

After exploring various design options, it was decided to remove the old Aga, opening up the opportunity to incorporate a pantry into the redesign. Redwood recommended a trusted architect to create the necessary drawings and manage the planning submission to the local authority. Following approvals and a builder selected, construction began in September 2023.

Redwood coordinated closely with both the builder and the client to ensure smooth progress. After the Aga was removed and new French doors installed, Redwood took over to remove the remaining kitchen units and prepare the space with the necessary plumbing, electrical and lighting. Plastering followed and preparation works were completed by an experienced tiler that patched and repaired the floor to maintain its seamless appearance.

By mid-October, the space was dry and ready for installation. Cabinets were fitted, and the Silestone worktop and splashback were templated and installed by a specialist fabricator. The pantry, appliances and finishing touches were then completed, allowing the client plenty of time to get ready for and enjoy Christmas.

The Result

We returned in summer 2024 to capture the full glory of the completed project. Bathed in sunlight streaming through the new French doors, the kitchen exudes a timeless charm. The painted Shaker Reed Green cabinets from our Redwood Signature collection, adorned with pewter bow handles, are perfectly complemented by the Silestone worktop and splashback, creating a light and airy space ideal for both everyday living and relaxed entertaining.

Project cost (excluding architect, window & doors, structural works and decorating) at December 2023, £33,335. Furniture and fittings £14,000. AEG & Neff appliances, sink, Quooker tap and lighting £6,780. Silestone worktop & splashback £6,795. Installation and plastering £5,760.

Standard of workmanship and attention to detail was exemplary…

Redwood Kitchens have just completed a full kitchen replacement for a relatively large kitchen our very old house. They were recommended to us and, right from the outset, we had no regrets in working with them. We had an initial sketch design and they worked with us to develop the design… They have access to a broad range of suppliers and was able to take us to a design centre to refine our ideas and select units and worktop design and colour. While the design process was quite lengthy, we were very happy with the process and the opportunity to reflect and refine the plans. When it came to fitting, they needed to work around/with a builder who was carrying out structural alterations to the kitchen and they showed good flexibility… Their standard of workmanship and attention to detail was exemplary and there was no hesitation in coming back after the work was complete to make minor adjustments or resolve the very few and very minor snags. Overall I would endorse them in terms of overall work, quality and care, attention to detail and value for money.
