Care guide: your worktops
Our full care guidance for quartz and timber worktops is coming soon. In the meantime, these everyday habits will protect any worktop.
Wipe, then dry
A clean cloth moistened (not wet) in warm water with a dash of washing-up liquid deals with most marks. A quick dry afterwards prevents the cloudy bloom marks that appear when moisture is left to dry on the surface.
Chopping boards and trivets
Always use a chopping board for food preparation and a trivet or heat mat under hot pans to protect the worktop from cuts, thermal shock and heat marks.
Mind the underside
Give items with a rough or unglazed base a soft coaster or pad to protect the worktop from fine scratches.
Avoid harsh cleaners
Bleach, vinegar, acetone, scouring creams, solvent sprays and abrasive pads can dull, scratch or haze worktop surfaces.
